The disciples ask a provocative question of the Lord Jesus in John 1:38 when they say “Where are you staying?” In the ancient Jewish world, no public establishments of education (such as modern colleges) were available. Those interested in becoming ‘disciples’ would entreat a teacher to accept their ‘internship’. There was no facility, but only the ‘Rabbi’. “Where are you staying?” was equivalent to saying, ‘Can I be your disciple?’ Evangelist Jerry Dickinson addresses this account in today’s sermon.
Loren Gorrell is a Godly father, husband, and teacher at the Rice Road church of Christ. In a recent sermon he addressed the topic of Christian apparel. We hope you listen with an open heart to his sincere words of admonition.
And Mordecai told them to answer Esther: “Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king’s palace any more than all the other Jews. For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:13-14, NKJV)
