Today’s sermon relates the stirring account of David sacrificing to God on Mount Moriah. When offered the oxen for the sacrifice for free, David replied:
“No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing.” (2 Samuel 24: 24)
What a remarkable religious ethic David demonstrated!
Evangelist Don King states: “Do you realize it is not a sacrifice unless it costs something? Service to God, if it is to have any genuine and lasting value is always a costly affair.” David’s admirable attitude is far from our modern pampered, indulgent, and coddled ‘padded pew’ air conditioned theology.
